This image of a Northern Yellow Warbler titled Den of Snakes, was taken during spring at the Narcisse Snake Dens in Manitoba, Canada. While thousands of Red-sided Garter Snakes emerged from their winter dens below, this brilliant yellow songbird landed briefly on a weathered branch above the incredible gathering, creating a scene few people ever have the chance to witness.

The vibrant yellow plumage of the warbler stands in striking contrast against the endless tangle of black and gold snakes beneath it. Two remarkable wildlife spectacles come together in a single frame—one of North America's most beloved migratory songbirds perched above one of the largest snake gatherings on Earth.

Capturing this photograph required more than simply documenting the snakes. I envisioned creating an image that connected two very different parts of Manitoba's spring migration, waiting patiently for a bird to land naturally within the composition. For just a few fleeting seconds, the warbler settled exactly where I had hoped, transforming an already extraordinary wildlife event into a truly unique photograph.
